DSC Teams with St. Luke’s for New Season of Up and Atom Science
November 13, 2012ALLENTOWN, Pa., November 13, 2012 – The Da Vinci Science Center (DSC) has teamed up with St. Luke’s University Health Network to present the fourth season of the popular Up and Atom Science series on WFMZ 69 News at Sunrise, which premieres Tuesday, Nov. 20.
This season’s monthly episodes will concentrate health and medical topics in synergy with the Center’s Year of the Human Body project, which is presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network. Episodes are being planned to give viewers a look inside the Lehigh Valley’s first medical school – the Temple/St. Luke’s regional medical program – and the area’s first hybrid operating room at the St. Luke’s campus in Bethlehem, Pa.
Hosted by WFMZ 69 News at Sunrise Anchor Eve Tannery and featuring Da Vinci Science Center CEO Troy A. Thrash, Up and Atom Science brings to life in the region’s living rooms with a mix of humor and hands-on activities. Its third season, which concluded in June 2012, featured the science thriving every day in eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey.
This season’s opening episode will highlight the importance of healthy lungs as November is known around the United States as Lung Cancer Awareness Month. The episode will be presented live from WFMZ 69 News studios and is scheduled to air between 8:30-9 a.m. The Da Vinci Science Center will publish an at-home activity on the web at www.davincisciencecenter.org/upandatom after each of this season’s episodes.
The Year of the Human Body is a 12-month Da Vinci Science Center project from Sept. 2012-Sept. 2013. This coordinated presentation of visitor exhibits, public programs, and industry ventures intended to broaden interest and participation in medical careers. The Year of the Human Body also is supported by Capital BlueCross, Daiichi Sankyo, and Discover Lehigh Valley. The Center is hosting the world-famous Bodies Revealed exhibition now through Feb. 10, 2013, and will host the blockbuster Grossology exhibition from May 18, 2013-Sept. 2, 2013, as part of the project.
