Solar Eclipse Party!

 

The Da Vinci Science Center will be hosting a Solar Eclipse Party from Saturday, August 19 through Monday, August 21.

Enjoy space-themed family fun for all ages, and learn how to safely view the solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21. See below for schedule of events. Entry included with price of admission or membership.

Saturday,  August 19 (11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

  • Virtual Reality Space Experience (first come, first served) – Imagine the eclipse from a different point of view with Space Tour VR.  Use your personal spacecraft to tour the Solar System.  Orbit the Earth and its moon to understand the eclipse from the perspective of space.
  • Dave Fry Performance (Sun & Moon Songs, 1:00 p.m. only)
  • Shadow Science (Colored Shadows, Pinhole Science Explorations, Bear’s Shadow activities)
  • Eclipse Explorations (Pinhole Cards*, Mini Eclipse demo)
  • Practice Viewing
  • And more!

Sunday, August 20 (12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

  • Practice Viewing

Monday, August 21 (11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

  • Dave Fry Performance (Sun & Moon Songs, 1:00 p.m. only)
  • Shadow Science (Colored Shadows, Pinhole Science Explorations, Bear’s Shadow activities)
  • Eclipse Explorations (Pinhole Cards*, Mini Eclipse demo)
  • Safe Eclipse Viewing (Weather Permitting)**
  • Livestream from NASA (areas of totality, where the moon completely covers the sun)
  • And more!

 

*While supplies last
**Eclipse is viewable in our area from approximately 1:20 p.m. – 3:59 p.m., with maximum coverage (approximately 75%) at 2:42 p.m.

 

Weather permitting, we will also have a solar telescope available to facilitate safely viewing the eclipse through solar filters throughout the weekend. Specific viewing times to be determined.
