Winter Holidays 2012: Polar Science Adventures

Visitors will explore the ends of the Earth and discover how polar life is different as the Da Vinci Science Center presents a series of visitor activities and stage shows. All Polar Science Adventures are included with paid regular admission.
 

Follett Activity Room

Sponsored by Follett Corporation: Visitors can dress as penguins, carry eggs between their feet, chill in a water bottle igloo, and touch bear skulls and pelts.
Dec. 22, 26-29, and 31, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Dec. 23 and 30, 12-4 p.m.

Polar Activity Room

The Polar Research Activity Room features colorful experiments with fresh water and salt water, testing chemical hand warmers, and an indoor Aurora Borealis.

Coca-Cola Polar Bears

Polar Science program participants can enter to win Coca-Cola polar bear figures from Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley and all Center visitors from Dec. 22-31 can enter to win a large Coca-Cola polar bear.

Animal Adaptations

Presented by Lehigh Valley Zoo: Visitors will meet some of the Lehigh Valley Zoo’s animals while hearing what animals do during the chill – including hibernation, migration, and adaptation.

Mush! Sled Dog Shows

Presented by Arctic Paws: Real sled dogs will visit the Center as visitors hear about caring and training for sled dogs and their roles in a sled dog team.
Thursday, Dec. 27, 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Polar Animals

Presented by New Jersey Academy for Aquatic Sciences: Scientists will share how animals live in the poles and visitors will touch real polar bear and penguin pelts.
Saturday, Dec. 29, 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Supercoolness Shows

The Da Vinci Science Center’s popular Supercoolness visitor show will be presented with a twist of Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt. Supported in part by AirGas.
Dec. 22, 26, and 28, 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.; Dec. 23, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

North Pole vs. South Pole

Retired scientist and Center Chairman Frank K. Schweighardt, Ph.D., shares his exploration of the North Pole and compares it to the South Pole. Presented with support from Quark Expeditions.
Dec. 30: 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Ugly Sweater Photo Contest

Now through Monday, Dec. 31: Visitors and fans can enter this Da Vinci Science Center-style Ugly Sweater Photo Contest for a chance to win a cool prize.
