The Da Vinci Science Center will be Open for ExSCIting Adventures this summer as it hosts the feature exhibition National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers and a variety of visitor events and programs announced today.
Sponsored at the Da Vinci Science Center in part by ATAS International, Inc., and the Dexter F. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation, the National Geographic Earth Explorers exhibition appears from May 30-Sept. 7, 2015, and will be included with Center admission or membership. The breathtaking exhibition takes visitors inside the wildest places on the globe, brings National Geographic’s unparalleled adventures and discoveries to life, and introduces visitors to meet the explorers who live these adventures every day. The exhibit’s areas highlight the Earth’s spectacular eco-zones – including polar regions, oceans, rain forests, mountains, caves, and savannas.
The Da Vinci Science Center’s summer theme of Open for ExSCIting Adventures is derived from the Center’s slogan. The Center will hold hands-on activities and shows for visitors daily during the summer season along with one featured visitor event each month. Those featured visitor events include the following:
- Bugging Out, sponsored by Ehrlich Pest Control – Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.: A celebration of all things creepy and crawly in the world of insects and bugs
- Wet and Wild Weekend, sponsored by The Hartford – Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 26, from 12-3:30 p.m.: A variety of indoor and outdoor water-themed visitor shows and games
- Dog Days of Summer, sponsored by Freshpet – Sunday, Aug. 16, from 12-4 p.m.: Playful hands-on – and paws-on – activities for visitors and dogs highlighting and animal health, animal care, and amazing things that animals can do
All summer visitor events will be included with Center admission and membership. The Center will be open for visitors Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from 12-5 p.m. The Center will be open on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015; Independence Day, July 4, 2015; and Labor Day, Sept. 7, 2015.
The Da Vinci Science Center’s Summer 2015 Camps from June 15-Aug. 21 also include several ExSCIting Adventures. New week-long offerings include an Earth Explorers session that includes a bus trip to a local cavern; a session called Guardians of the Earth in which campers explore sustainable ways of life and visit the organic Rodale Institute farm; and a session called Fire, Water, Air, and Earth, in which campers that includes an immersive exploration of the physics of scuba diving. The Da Vinci Science Center also is encouraging fans and visitors to explore family fun throughout the greater Lehigh Valley area this summer through the Lehigh Valley Kidsventure partnership – a coalition formed by the Center and Discover Lehigh Valley. The Kidsventure initiative promotes family-friendly activities to be enjoyed through Oct. 31, with special discounts and experiences.
