Vincent Sorgi, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for PPL Corporation, was re-elected Chairman of the Da Vinci Science Center’s Board of Trustees during the board’s most recent quarterly meeting.
The board also re-elected Stephen K. Breininger as its Treasurer, elected Hon. Jane R. Ervin as its Secretary, and elected Susan Schierwagen as a new Trustee.
Sorgi was elected Board Chairman in May 2014 after serving as Vice Chairman from 2013-2014 and Treasurer from 2010-2014. He has been a Da Vinci Science Center Trustee since Sept. 2009. Sorgi was named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of PPL in June 2014 after serving as the company’s Vice President and Controller from 2010-2014. Sorgi also was Controller for one of PPL’s major business lines from 2007-2010 and Financial Director of PPL Generation for one year. Prior to joining PPL, Sorgi worked in a variety of financial positions for Deloitte & Touche and Public Service Enterprise Group in New Jersey.
Sorgi is passionate about volunteering and helping underprivileged children. PPL teams he has led have been active community partners with several organizations – including Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania, the Allentown YMCA, and Allentown School District schools.
Breininger is Vice President and Controller for PPL Corporation. He has been a Da Vinci Science Center Trustee since Feb. 2013 and was elected Treasurer in May 2014. Before assuming his current position at PPL, Breininger served as its Assistant Controller-Business Lines and as Controller for the former PPL Supply segment. Breininger also has been a Congregational Council member for Weisenberg Lutheran Church in Weisenberg, Pa., and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County.
Ervin is the former CEO/President of Communities Services for Children, Inc. (CSC), a former Lehigh County Executive, and a former Lehigh County Commissioner. She was elected to the Center’s board in Nov. 2015. Ervin has been an advocate for early childhood education for four decades and led CSC from 2007 until her retirement in Oct. 2015. During Ervin’s tenure, the organization’s Head Start early childhood education program was recognized as one of the ten best in the United States by the National Head Start Association. Before her work at CSC, Ervin was Lehigh County Executive from 2002-2006 after serving as interim County Executive in 2001. Ervin served previously as a Lehigh County Commissioner from 1996-2001.
Schierwagen is Director of Coupling and Suppression Systems, Victaulic Company. She worked previously as Vice President of Commercial Sales, Lutron Electronics Company. Her additional community service includes membership in the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley Women’s Leadership Council, the Lehigh Valley Society of Women Engineers Scholarship committee, and several industry organizations. Schierwagen is a 2014 recipient of a Lehigh Valley Business Women of Influence Award.
