Kids and families who enjoy building things will want to visit the Da Vinci Science Center on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, as the Center holds its annual Manufacturing Day celebration, sponsored by ATAS International, Inc.
Visitors will explore current-day regional manufacturing from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with a variety of hands-on activities presented by ATAS; the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute (LCTI); the makers of Fablicator 3D printers; and KitRex, maker of the popular dinosaur-shaped puzzles. Visitors also can learn to solder with Make Lehigh Valley and make their own Blinky Badges to take home. Make Lehigh Valley activities include a $5.00 program fee. All other Manufacturing Day activities are included with paid Da Vinci Science Center admission or membership entry.
The Da Vinci Science Center also is hosting the traveling exhibition Be the Dinosaur: Life in the Cretaceous through Jan. 19, 2015. Also sponsored by ATAS International, Be the Dinosaur takes kids inside dinosaurs’ prehistoric world with delightful video game-style technology and lets them discover these amazing creatures survived, thrived, and enjoyed life in the wild. The exhibition also is included with admission or membership entry.
A national Manufacturing Day celebration, produced by the national Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA), was held on Oct. 4, 2014.
The Da Vinci Science Center has been a proud supporter of manufacturing industry in eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. The Center’s Summer of Manufacturing project in 2011 included the first Lehigh Valley Manufacturing Summit and was hailed by the National Institute of Manufacturing as a “national model” for partnerships of industry leaders, educators, and nonprofit organizations.
The Da Vinci Science Center also is a lead partner in the Dream It. Do It. PA coalition – a group led by the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) of Allentown, Pa., to raise awareness of advanced manufacturing careers among students, educators, and adult family members. Additional Dream It. Do It. PA partners include LCTI and the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board (LVWIB).
