As water covers approximately two-thirds of the Earth’s surface and connects all of its people, the Da Vinci Science Center’s newest permanent exhibit and addition to its Year of Innovation inspires visitors to discover how scientists are finding innovative ways to protect and harness the power of this most fundamental resource.
The Da Vinci Science Center and Nestlé Waters North America – producer of Deer Park Natural Spring Water – unveiled the Center’s Deer Park® Natural Spring Water Table exhibit officially during a reception Thursday evening for Nestlé Waters employees and their families. Nestlé Waters operates two bottling plants in Breinigsville, Pa., employing more than 400 people.
The water table exhibit – subtitled Thoughts Flow – is designed specifically for preschool-aged children and sits less than four feet above the ground. It features movable parts that visitors can position to manipulate the flowing water. The exhibit is complemented by informational panels describing Nestlé Waters North America’s jobs, efforts to conserve water, maintaining healthy hydration practices, and water recycling.
“As water connects us all, we hope that the Deer Park Natural Spring Water Table connects kids and families with each other in innovative problem-solving as they figure out where to place the panels to create the flow they desire,” said Karen Knecht, Director of Exhibits and Education of the Da Vinci Science Center. “We also hope to inspire visitors to learn more about water, healthy hydration, where and how water is bottled, and manufacturing careers offered in our region by companies like Nestlé Waters North America.”
The Deer Park Natural Spring Water Table was created by Artist with Water Tom Egan of Salina, Kan. Egan placed a similar exhibit recently at a museum in New Delhi, India, and has placed several other water exhibits around the world.
The Da Vinci Science Center’s Year of Innovation, which continues through Sept. 2014, highlights careers in all scientific and technical fields and inspire tomorrow’s professionals to embrace the qualities that drive innovation – including creativity, collaboration, process skills, and problem-solving abilities. The Center is opening several new permanent exhibits throughout its Year of Innovation along with its presentation of several Year of Innovation Public Programs and three traveling exhibit experiences.
