DSC Uses The Force to Set New Single-Day Attendance Record

Star Wars DayThe Force was with the Da Vinci Science Center Saturday as the Center set another single-day attendance record with its Star Wars Day event.

The Center welcomed a total of 2,309 visitors for the special promotional event featuring appearances by more than a dozen Star Wars characters from Garrison Carida, local unit of the 501st Legion, known as Vader’s Fist. The Center also sold 80 household memberships on Saturday.

“We want to thank the people of Garrison Carida for helping us bring science to life today,” said Brian Strohecker, the Da Vinci Science Center’s Director of Business Development. “Their generosity created a truly unique opportunity to engage kids in hands-on science activities. We also want to thank our guests for donating more than 200 Star Wars toys. Garrison Carida will be distributing these toys to patients at local children’s hospitals in the months ahead.”

Additional visitor activities included making lightsaber circuits, building droids, creating Star Wars-style stop-motion animations, and discovering how to create holograms with smart phones.

Saturday marked the third time in less than four months in which the Da Vinci Science Center set a new single-day attendance record. The Center drew 1,345 visitors on Dec. 29, 2015, with appearances by Arctic Paws Sled Dogs during its holiday program series. The Center’s signature science event, Ice Cream Wars, drew 1,841 visitors with its eighth annual contest on Jan. 9, 2016.
