The national Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) and Air Products – one of American industry’s leaders in hydrogen technology – are working to raise awareness of their efforts with a new outreach campaign.
The first National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is being held today – Oct. 8, 2015 – with efforts to promote these technologies as sources of reliable and resilient power that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase American energy security. Activities include public events and advocacy on social media platforms.
The United States Senate passed a resolution in July 2015 designating Oct. 8 as National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day. The date was chosen because Oct. 8 can be expressed numerically as 10.08 and the atomic weight of Hydrogen is 1.008.
Based in Trexlertown, Pa., Air Products has been involved with more than 200 hydrogen fueling projects around the world. The company’s SmartFuel technologies have powered a variety of vehicles – including cars, trucks, vans, buses, scooters, planes, and submarines.
The Da Vinci Science Center and Air Products partnered with Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in 2008 to place hydrogen buses on the Air Products and LVHN campuses for one year to raise awareness of hydrogen’s capacity as a safe, clean, and effective transportation fuel.
