You’ve been hired! Work with your team to put together as many smilies as possible while maintaining uniform quality. Along the way, you’ll face unexpected challenges. This fun workshop gives students a taste of the skills that go into mass production, and gives them a new appreciation for the factory process.
Engineer a structure based only on a picture we give you. Can you figure out how it fits together? In this workshop, students practice reading schematic drawings and hone their 21st century science skills of communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
A.I. for Anybody presented by Mac McMahon
This is a combination workshop/presentation by special guest Mac MaMahon, founder of A.I. for Anybody. We’ve all heard of Artifical Intelligence (A.I.)…but how well do we actually understand it? Mac explains A.I. concepts, challenges and applications to a broad audience, using hands-on, technology-free activities; no computer science background necessary!
Meet your instructor: Mac McMahon studied International Politics at Penn State University, but his passions are computer programming, data science and artificial intelligence. He is a co-founder of A.I. For Anyone, which promotes artificial intelligence literacy among the public. McMahon is also working on becoming a Machine Learning Engineer.
Binary Code Birthday Bead Bookmarks
Write your birthday in binary code! Make a bead string using our code key to spell out the month and day you were born.
Build a Bridge
Can you span the ‘river’ and hold a lot of weight…with just one sheet of paper? Experience load distribution and strong structures with this activity.
Try your hand at cutting through styrofoam with a hot-wire cutter. (The cutters feature safety switches to keep the heat under control.) Making a cut is easy…but can you cut along a line? Can you cut along a complicated line? You’ll have new respect for skilled manufacturers afterwards!
