Meet the Scientist Event

Saturday, March 11, 2017: This month’s presenting scientist is Jeanne Berk, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Cedar Crest College. Learn about the chemistry of color and surface tension with milk fireworks! Test out your color blending skills as you make beautiful bursts of color and learn about how different liquid properties reach with each other.

Dr. Berk is specialized in Physical Organic Chemistry and, as a professor, her favorite part of her job is the chemistry of “Aha!” moments with her students. She teaches in the areas of organic chemistry, nursing chemistry, and polymer chemistry.

Come meet Dr. Berk at the center Saturday, March 11 from 12-2pm to learn more about chemistry and the science behind color!

The Da Vinci Science Center developed its monthly Meet the Scientist events through its participation in the national Portal to the Public partnership created by the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Wash. The program’s objective is to make young people more aware of accessible and lucrative career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) industries.
