H/Experiences/Polar Science Weekend

Polar Science Weekend

One of our most popular events of the year is back! Meet a bamboo shark from the Center for Aquatic Sciences, an African penguin from the Lehigh Valley Zoo, sled dogs from Arctic Paws Dog Sled Tours, and more!

The programs and activities will give visitors a deeper understanding of how different daily life is in polar regions and how wildlife can survive and thrive in those climates.

Saturday, Feb. 16 – Bamboo Shark appearance

  • The Center for Aquatic Sciences will bring a polar bear pelt, a seal pelt, a narwhal tusk, a walrus tusk, and a live shark as they talk about the animals that live at the ends of the earth. Shows are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
  • Dry ice experiments at Inquiry Island

Sunday, Feb. 17 – African Penguin appearance

  • Not all penguins live at the south pole. The Lehigh Valley Zoo will bring an African Penguin and some friends and talk about the differences.  Shows at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There will be a 10 minute talk about the animals followed by 50 minutes of meet and greet.
