Senior Science Mondays: Film – Being Mortal with Q&A Session

Senior Science Mondays provide the unique opportunity to explore health topics in depth with experts from St. Luke’s University Health Network.

  • St. Luke’s Presenters: Ric Baxter, M.D., and Reverend Anne Huey
  • This film, teaming renowned surgeon and author, Atul Gawande, and PBS Frontline, explores the burgeoning art and science of palliative care and the ways in which having a conversation around the question “What are your priorities if your time is limited?” can empower patients to live their lives as fully as possible. Being Mortalshines a spotlight in how patients, families and physicians all experience the end of life – for the ultimate goal is not a good death but a good life – all the way to the end. This 50 minute video, first shown on PBS Frontline, will offer us the opportunity to see into the experiences of Dr. Gawande and other patients and families as they seek to deal with one of the most personal and powerful times in a person’s and a family’s life. The discussion time afterward allows for audience members to raise their own questions and concerns.
