Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your own frozen powers? Join us as we explore what it means to freeze something using liquid nitrogen, hot ice, and dry ice. At the end of the show use materials you can find at home to try an awesome “frozen” chemistry experiment along with us.


  • Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: $5 per scout or $25 for groups of 5 or more (groups are limited to 1 device per 5 scouts)
  • This program is for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts BSA.

At Home Experiment: Crystal Ornament

Adult supervision required.

If you would like to participate in the at-home experiment, you should come with the following:

  • Goggles, safety glasses, sunglasses, or even prescription glasses to protect eyes from any accidental splashes, eruptions, or spills
  • Liquid-Resistant Gloves to protect hands from irritation from Borax
  • Clear container that is heat resistant (like a mason jar)
  • Heat-resistant liquid measuring item (like Measuring Cups or Graduated Cylinders)
  • Tablespoon measurer
  • Stirring rod or spoon
  • A device to heat water (microwave, electric kettle, stove)
  • 2 cups boiling water 
  • 6 TBSP Borax
  • 5-6 in. string
  • 1 chopstick or pencil
  • 1 pipe cleaner
  • 3-5 drops (~1ml) food coloring *Optional*
