Women in Science and Engineering Career Connection Days
Shock and Awesome
Make all kinds of connections with this student-driven workshop. Your group gets some simple circuit components and a series of increasingly complex challenges. How many can you do? Work as a team to wire up combinations and grow your understanding of how electricity is transmitted.
This classic Da Vinci Science Center workshop comes back for a limited engagement! Combine different chemicals to see how they react. Can you figure out what combinations cause specific reactions?
Video Game Story Writing presented by Kat Mahoney
Kat Mahoney is the Owner/Executive Editor of WeDiscoverGeeks. She is a 20-yr veteran in video game testing and reviews, a Computer Science major from Hawaii Pacific University, Author of “A Savvy Moms Guide to Parenting Generation Z” and an avid cosplayer and video gamer. Most importantly, she’s a mom of three teens who all play video games.
Experiment with different variables using our ‘tornado boxes’, which create a small updraft inside a sealed chamber. Add some dry ice in water to the box and see the vapor vortex! What changes could you make, and what do those changes do to your funnel?
Ozobots and Cubelets
You draw colored lines on a piece of paper; Ozobots ‘read’ the color combinations as commands for different kinds of movement. Cubelets feature color-coded cubes, each with a different effect; link them together in different combinations to build your robot, then turn the switch to ‘on’. These amazing tabletop robots are easy to use and offer a lot of engagement.
Sick of slime? Level up your homemade polymer game with floam! This variation on slime adds a texture detail that makes an oddly satisfying substance. Make it and take it!
