The oceans of the word cover about 70% of the earth’s surface. Oceans drive earth’s weather, regulate temperatures, and are habitats for countless organisms. With all that we do know about oceans, there is so much more to learn. More than 80% of the ocean has been unexplored!
What we do know is that our oceans and the animals that inhabit them are under threat. Overfishing, climate change, and pollution are just some of the issues. Learn about the creatures that live there and what we can do to protect it.
All activities take place at Da Vinci Science Center and are included with admission or membership.
Get a taste of what scuba diving is like and try on some scuba gear!
Schedule:
Meet a real Chain Catshark! From bycatch to pollution, shark populations are declining faster than they can rebound. Learn about different threats to sharks and discover ways you can help protect this ancient predator.
Schedule:
Think globally. Act locally.
Plastic is an amazing material used in everything from clothing to water bottles, but where does it go when we’re done with it? If not disposed of properly it can end up in our oceans. There are large areas of ocean called garbage patches with high concentrations of plastic throughout the world. The largest of these patches is twice the size of Texas!
Learn how plastic is getting into our oceans, how it impacts marine birds, and what you can do to prevent it through a hands-on activity facilitated by professional Da Vinci Science Center educators.
