Lehigh Valley Science Festival Partners to Host Inaugural Events

The Da Vinci Science Center, Leadership Lehigh Valley, and several regional partners are bringing science excitement directly to the community with the first Science Festival of the Lehigh Valley on April 13-15, 2012.

Presented by the County of Lehigh, the festival will include a variety of free or inexpensive experiences throughout the region highlighting science’s widespread impact on each person’s life and science career opportunities.

The festival was created by Leadership Lehigh Valley and the Da Vinci Science Center as part of a national movement begun in 2007 to hold community science festivals across the United States. Lehigh Valley organizers hope to promote a culture of appreciation for science and encourage student interest in science subjects and local careers. Festival sponsors also include Presenting News Sponsor The Morning Call Media Group of Allentown, Pa.; Supporting Sponsor ATAS International, Inc., of Allentown, Pa.; and Contributing Sponsors Concannon Wealth Management of Bethlehem, Pa., Highmark Blue Shield, and TD Bank of Allentown, Pa.

The festival’s main event will be a free carnival at Agri-Plex at the Allentown Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. More than 25 partners and exhibitors will provide interactive fun for people of all ages – including meeting live animals, performing chemical experiments, exploring forensic science, discovering a giant dinosaur balloon sculpture, hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, and live shows. The Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown, Pa., will hold a robotic surgery simulation Olympic-style event during the carnival, with opening ceremonies taking place at 10 a.m.

The Science Festival of the Lehigh Valley also will include events from April 13-15, 2012, at Allentown Symphony Hall in Allentown, Pa.; DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.; Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville, Pa.; the Rodale Institute in Kutztown, Pa.; and Weyerbacher Brewing Company in Easton, Pa.

Festival organizing partners also include: Northampton Community College of Bethlehem, Pa.; Wildlands Conservancy of Emmaus, Pa.; Lehigh University of Bethlehem, Pa.; Lehigh Valley Zoo of Schnecksville, Pa.; the Allentown School District of Allentown, Pa.; the Allentown Public Library of Allentown, Pa.; and the City of Allentown, Pa.

The Da Vinci Science Center, an independent nonprofit organization with IRS 501(c)(3) status, is the fiscal agent for Science Festival of the Lehigh Valley.
