A math teacher in the Allentown School District’s new Building 21 and participant in the Da Vinci Science Center’s Greater Allentown Math Science Partnership (GAMSP) competed in the 2016 teacher’s tournament on the legendary game show Jeopardy!

Chris Tempro, who has taught in the Allentown School District for 14 years, was one of 15 teachers who competed for the tournament’s $100,000 grand prize. All participants received a $2,500 grant for classroom projects from Farmers Insurance.

Tempro appears in the first quarterfinal round episode of the tournament, which airs throughout the United States on Monday, May 2.

The GAMSP is a Da Vinci Science Center professional development program for teachers that provides educators deeper math and science content, a greater ability to teach though the inquiry method, powerful cross-connections, and the ability to empower their students with a deeper understanding of concepts, reasoning, and process skills.

Building 21 is a public high school that allows students to learn at their own pace, to engage with content and curriculum that they find interesting and relevant, and to apply and further develop their skills in real-world environments. The Allentown Building 21 opened in Sept. 2015 and the original Building 21 serves students in Philadelphia, Pa.
