#MySci411: Lehigh STEPS Lead Region’s Scientists Into the Future

Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., opened in Aug. 2010 its Science, Technology, Environment, Policy, and Society (STEPS) building, the centerpiece of the university’s $85-million initiative of the same name.

The STEPS project seeks to provide Lehigh students world-class learning and research opportunities that integrate a variety of disciplines and address global challenges.

The 135,000-square-foot STEPS building’s design encourages collaborative learning and the integration of classrooms and laboratories. It features state-of-the-art teaching and research areas interspersed with seminar rooms, study lounges, and faculty offices.

The project also includes the endowment of STEPS chairs for faculty in disciplines ranging from chemistry to international relations to journalism, funding for undergraduate research, and graduate fellowships.
