#MySci411: Northampton Community College Opens Forensics Facility

Forensics
Northampton Community College (NCC) in Bethlehem, Pa., recently opened its state-of-the-art Northeast Forensic Training Center (NFTC) in its Fowler Family Southside Center.

The NFTC offers classes in the basics of criminal forensics developed and delivered by industry professionals. Its mission is to bring specialized, basic forensic training to first responders who otherwise do not experience significant exposure to forensics techniques. Classes include latent print processing, crime scene initial response, electronic sources of information for use in criminal investigations, and crime scene photography.

The NFTC’s simulated “apartment” – which is complete with a living room, bathroom, kitchen and dining area, and bedroom – can be staged as the scene of a variety of crimes.

The NCC Fowler Family Southside Center is located in a former Bethlehem Steel Corporation building that was home to prior incarnations of the Da Vinci Science Center from 1997-2005. The building is named for the family of Marlene “Linny” Fowler, a community philanthropist who also is a Da Vinci Science Center Trustee.
