PPL Corporation has made an additional $20,000 contribution to support the Da Vinci Science Center’s preschool exhibit expansion, which is part of the largest exhibit investment in the organization’s history.
The expansive new preschool area – anchored by an immersive experience called Engineers On a Roll – will open at the Center early in 2017 as part of a $350,000 exhibit investment that was announced in August. The PPL Corporation support announced today comes in addition to a $50,000 contribution made by the company in Feb. 2015.
Made possible with a leadership gift from Bob and Sandy Lovett and produced by the Ann Arbor Hands-on Museum in Michigan, Engineers on a Roll is a combined engineering lab, playscape, and climbing experience that offers preschool children hours of active fun while they explore technology, mathematics, and engineering as they drop, bounce, and sort colorful balls.
The Da Vinci Science Center is investing in a new preschool exhibit area because scientific data has proven that the earliest years of a child’s life are the most critical years of his or her development, said Lin Erickson, the Center’s Executive Director and CEO.
“This support from PPL Corporation helps enable the Da Vinci Science Center to provide deeper, more enriching experiences that spark the curiosities of our youngest visitors and prepare them to be successful learners,” Erickson said. “While encouraging more visits from preschool families, our expanded preschool exhibit area will also demonstrate the kinds of experiences that visitors can expect at the Center in the future.”
Carol Obando-Derstine, Regional Affairs Director for PPL Electric Utilities, added, “PPL is dedicated to working with stellar community organizations such as the Da Vinci Science Center in order to prepare children for the future. We’re proud to support their latest efforts to expand the preschool exhibit because we know how important it is to give children quality educational opportunities early on in their lives.”
Additional sponsors for the new preschool exhibit area include Bob and Sandy Lovett; Jim and Irene McLean; John and Denise Jones; the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation; ATAS International, Inc.; Air Products; the Bosch Community Fund; the Sylvia Perkin Charitable Trust; the Robert F. Hunsicker Foundation; and D’Huy Engineering.
