The Da Vinci Science Center plans to double the number of students served through their outreach programs over the next five years. A $25,000 grant from the PPL Foundation will help science center to purchase two outreach vehicles to deliver STEM programs to more students.
“We cannot thank the PPL Foundation enough for their generous support. With their gift, we will be able to reach many more students with exhibits and programs that will capture their interest in STEM and STEM careers and spark a lifetime love of learning” said Lin Erickson, Executive Director and CEO of the Da Vinci Science Center.
In the 2016-17 school year, science center delivered STEM outreach programs to more than 40,000 students. The outreach vehicles will allow staff to take exhibits such as robotics, liquid nitrogen, and health exhibits such as the SynDaver (synthetic cadaver), sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield and pop-up MEGABrain, sponsored by St. Luke’s University Health Network, on the road to schools that would otherwise not be able to experience these exhibits at the center.
“PPL is committed to improving the communities where our customers and employees live and work,” said Carol Obando-Derstine, PPL Electric Utilities’ regional affairs director. “Supporting organizations like the Da Vinci Science Center, which is making STEM education accessible to more youth, is something we strongly support. We believe it will have a lasting benefit in our region.”
