STEAM Educator Award Winner: Amy Putlock

Amy Putlock has been the general music teacher, choral director, and theater director at Broughal Middle School in South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for 12 years. In her six daily music classes, she works to redefine music education through STEAM integration. She integrates audio engineering, music technology, electronic instrument construction, coding, and podcasting with music literacy, instrumental techniques (guitar, ukulele, piano, and drums), and songwriting. She extends STEAM education out of the classroom through theatrical set design and construction, light design, videography, urban farming, and a songwriting partnership with the city of Bethlehem’s Climate Action Plan and her afterschool music production program, the Broughal Mixtape Project.
