Today’s medical field isn’t just about being a doctor or a nurse. There are hundreds of healthcare career paths right here in the Lehigh Valley.
During our Healthcare Career Connection Days, March 14-16, students can learn about being a medical equipment designer, a drug developer, a medical researcher, a chemist, a physical therapist, a trainer, a surgeon, and much more.
There will be hands-on activities and an assortment of companies, schools, and professionals working in the field.
Representatives will be on hand from the following companies:
Optical Illusions Presentations (Saturday Only)
Dr. Daniel Ackerman, St. Luke’s Director of Stroke and Vascular Neurology, will demonstrate how the brain perceives optical illusions. Shows will be Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Brain Party (Saturday Only)
The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is holding a celebration meant to teach you about and test your brain. You can touch a sheep brain, make mirror tracings or a dendritic painting, and get brain-themed giveaways.
The MEGA Brain presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network
Walk through a giant, inflatable brain! Key features and conditions are explained in this unusual exploration of your cranial contents. Featuring lights, informative signage, and inflated brain structures.
The Rope Neuron Game
Visualize how neurotransmitters send signals with this activity. It’s easy…but teamwork is key! Work with your team to receive neurotransmitters and trigger the signal using a very over-sized neuron.
Isolate your DNA and wear it with pride! This simple activity uses the student’s cheek cells (collected by a simple rinse-and-spit), which are then cleaned and stripped to reveal the DNA strand inside. You’ll take your sample with you in a small test-tube pendant!
Hands-on Cow Eye Dissections (Thursday and Friday)
Explore the parts of the eye and how they work. Find the lens, retina, vitreous humor, and even locate the “blind spot” during this one-of-a-kind experience.
Career Connection Days are included with general admission or membership. Healthcare Career Connection Days are presented by The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation, with support from St. Luke’s University Health Network, ATAS International, Inc., Reach Cyber Charter School, The Rider Pool Foundation, and Highmark Blue Shield.
