Bring our innovative fabrication tools direct to you with Da Vinci Science Center’s Mobile Fab Lab.

Our Mobile Fab Lab offers a variety of hands-on, technology-driven courses designed to spark creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.

Each course is adaptable and will be tailored to match the students’ experience and skill levels.

In addition to courses for all ages, the Mobile Fab Lab can bring design workshops to your private events, after-school programs, or community organizations.

Digi-Doodle (All Ages)

1 hour

Turn your hand-drawn creation into a laser-engraved masterpiece! Use markers and pencils to create a personalized design on paper, then watch it come to life with a laser cutter. Learn how art and technology come together to transform your drawings into lasting works of art.

Felt Masks (Ages 6+)

1 hour

Bring your creativity to life by designing your very own eye mask while learning the basics of digital design in Inkscape. Explore shape, pattern, and detail as you turn your ideas into a wearable piece of art. A perfect blend of art, technology, and imagination!

Girih Tiles (Ages 6+)

1.5 hours

Discover how geometry transforms into art as you design your own laser-cut masterpiece! Using free digital design tools, participants will craft striking geometric patterns and turn them into one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

Logo Design (Ages 6+)

1.5 hours

Unleash your creativity by designing your own custom decal! Using Inkscape, participants will create a digital logo and transform it into a physical design they can proudly take home. It’s the perfect mix of art and technology!

Gliders (Ages 10+)

1.5 hours

Soar into the principles of flight! In this hands-on workshop, participants will use Inkscape to create laser-cut foam gliders while exploring the science behind aerodynamics. With every launch, they’ll collaborate and piece together the best gliders while discovering how digital design and physics come together for high-flying fun!

Stencils and Stamps (Ages 10+)

2 hours

Learn the basics of digital design in Inkscape as you turn your artwork into a reusable tool for decorating, printing, or crafting. Choose your focus – stencils or stamps – and leave with a one-of-a-kind creation made by you! Perfect for woodshop and ceramics classes. Make woodblock prints, under glaze stencils, texture tools, and more.

Jewelry (Ages 12+)

2 hours

Discover the art of wearable design in this hands-on workshop! Participants will learn the basics of digital design in Inkscape and use a laser cutter to create their own unique earrings or pendant necklace. Experiment with shapes, patterns, and materials to craft jewelry that reflects your personal style.

Half-Day Programs

Fidgets (Ages 10+)

3 hours

Students will begin the course with hands-on prototyping, working collaboratively with peers to design and build their own movable fidget. This interactive process encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. In the second part of the course, students will be introduced to 3D printing with a focus on tactile textures. Each student will design a custom textured component in Tinkercad that will be incorporated into a 3D printed fidget they can take home.

Stop Motion Animation (Ages 10+)

3 hours

Learn the essentials of animation in this hands-on program! Students will start by storyboarding their ideas, then build models and sets for their scenes. Using the Stop Motion Studio app, they’ll bring their creations to life frame by frame. By the end, participants will have a fully animated short they designed from start to finish.

Sphero Chariots (Ages 12+)

3 hours

Take on a rescue mission like no other! Participants will use Inkscape to design laser-cut parts for chariots, program Sphero robots, and navigate obstacle courses inspired by real-world challenges. From concept to completion, it’s a thrilling journey of creativity and problem-solving.

Full Day Programs

Pocket Arcade (Ages 10+)

5 hours

Get hands-on coding experience as you create your very own portable video game! This program is perfect for all skill levels – whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your coding skills. Learn the fundamentals of programming, game logic, and interactive design while bringing your unique ideas to life.

Pick It Up! (Ages 12+)

5 hours

Students tackle the simple task of picking up an object – but with a twist: they must design solutions while navigating obstacles and challenges. This hands-on program encourages creative problem-solving, engineering thinking, and teamwork as participants experiment with different strategies and tools. Each challenge pushes you to think critically about mechanics, motion, and design efficiency. By the end, you’ll have built innovative solutions that make even the simplest task an exciting engineering challenge.

Multi-Day Programs

Bits 'n Bots (Ages 12+)

Five 2-hour sessions

Students will learn the fundamentals of computer-aided design using OnShape, from sketching and modeling to assembling parts and creating functional objects. Each week, you’ll build skills that prepare you for professional design work, exploring real world applications in engineering, product design, and prototyping.

Young Innovators (Ages 12+)

Five 2-hour sessions

Become an inventor and young entrepreneur in the Fab Lab. Learn about the design process to define a problem and a new way to solve it before pitching it to the class.

Set Design (Ages 12+)

Five 2-hour sessions

Our Fab Lab team will meet with the crew to explore how equipment and resources can be used for their stage design. Students will learn practical design techniques, problem-solving skills, and creative ways to bring their ideas to life. Ideal for school theatre programs, this workshop gives students hands-on experience in collaborative stage design, creating unique elements for their school’s production.

Helpful Hints

Mobile Fab Lab is available only for full-day bookings. Max of six 45-minute sessions or three 90-minute sessions per day.
Multiple days should be consecutive.
We do our best to accommodate all requests. However, we recommend booking at least one month in advance to ensure program availability.
Educators will arrive one hour prior to designated program start time for unload and set up.
Educators will need one hour to clean up after the program ends.

Payment Policies

Pricing for Mobile Fab Lab programming:
- 1 day: $1,225
- 2 days: $2,350
- 3 days: $3,445
- 4 days: $4,280
- 5 days: $5,030
Purchase orders are acceptable in advance only and will not be accepted on the day of the program.
Final payments are not accepted on the day of the program.
All final payments should be made two weeks in advance of the first program date.

Travel Fee Policy

A travel fee will be applied to all programs held at locations more than 50 miles round trip from the Da Vinci Science Center.

51-75 miles round trip: $75
76-100 miles round trip: $100
101-125 miles round trip: $125
Rates vary for programs farther than 125 miles round trip.

Cancellation/Rescheduling

Please call us immediately if you need to reschedule. We will make every effort to accommodate your request. If you need to cancel your program, please contact us at least two weeks in advance. A $35 processing fee may be applied for rescheduling or cancelling a program.
A $75.00 rescheduling fee will be charged if an educator is traveling to the program’s location prior to receiving notification that a program needs to be rescheduled.
Delivery of programs is weather dependent. Weather-related cancellations can be rescheduled to a new date within the current school year with no penalty. Weather-related cancellations that are not rescheduled to a new date within the same school year will be refunded.
