ALLENTOWN, PA. June 3, 2023 – Da Vinci Science Center announced today that Alvin H. Butz Construction Manager was crowned the Ice Cream Wars 13 champion. Team Alvin H. Butz’s recipe tallied the most votes from the Ice Cream Wars crowd.
The winning recipe, Concrete Crunch, was created with whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, Chocolate Oreos, Golden Oreos, and vanilla extract – exact quantities and combining techniques a scientific secret!
Team Alvin H. Butz also won the Best in Show Award from the Science Center’s Foodie Fan Panel, which included comedian, actor, and publishing professional, Kate Hughes; Toni Fernández, community outreach professional at Northampton Community College; Hayley DeLong, co-owner of Allentown’s famous The Udder Bar, and Heidi Stahl, food lover and social media creator and influencer behind Lehigh Valley Food For Thought.
Seven teams competed for the hearts, minds, and taste buds of visitors, creating fresh batches of ice cream that were instantly frozen using liquid nitrogen at negative 321 degrees Fahrenheit. Teams showcased their creativity, innovative spirit, and passion for giving back to the community. The other competing teams represented ATAS International, Inc.; Alvin H. Butz Construction Manager; B104/iHeartMedia; Evonik; Lehigh Valley Health Network, Victaulic and WFMZ 69 News.
“Ice Cream Wars showcases the art and science that goes into creating delicious culinary treats,” said Tyler Groft, Director of Sales & Visitor Experience at Da Vinci Science Center. “It’s a great example of how we all engage in science all the time.”
