Science Center Involvement Led Rebecca McCabe to MIT

September 6, 2019

Since her earliest years, Rebecca McCabe has been involved with the Da Vinci Science Center as a program participant, a volunteer, and a staff member.  Always curious about the world around her and how things work, she took advantage of every opportunity to learn more about science.

In 2011-12, she participated in the Inventors Lab program and LEGO Robotics summer camp. In 2015, she volunteered her time as a summer camp junior counselor.

In 2017, Rebecca joined the education staff as a summer camp instructor.  The culmination of these experiences led to her interest in engineering. In fall 2017, she enrolled at MIT with a major in mechanical engineering.

“The programs I did at the Da Vinci Science Center in middle school equipped me with an engineer’s mindset, and I aimed to instill this same curiosity in campers when I returned as a counselor.  It was the Da Vinci Science Center that sparked my scientific passions and continues to empower me today.”

In 2017, Rebecca was honored at the Da Vinci Science Center’s annual Hall of Fame Awards Gala with a Student Excellence Award and a college scholarship.
