Experienced educators lead hands-on STEM activities that inspire campers to think creatively, be curious, and learn through their own observations and discoveries. Campers will make new friends, develop lifelong critical thinking skills, and totally have the most fun with science.

Little Coders

Does your little learner love playing with technology and exploring the latest apps?  Help them to prepare for life in the 21st century as we investigate computers, complete coding challenges, and program robots!  This week, we'll engage in a healthy mix of on-screen and "unplugged" activities that develop your child's problem-solving skills and build a strong foundation for their high-tech future.

Over the Rainbow

July 8-12 and July 15-19
Morning Sessions: 9 a.m. - Noon

This week is all about COLOR!  We'll explore how our eyes see different colors and even learn about some “colors” we cannot see.  Each camper will get a chance to perform hands-on activities to make all the colors of the rainbow (and more) by mixing primary colors – with paint and light.  Everyone is sure to have a blast getting messy and creative when we experiment with Goblies throwable paintballs and play paint.

Animal Secrets

July 22-26 and July 29-Aug. 2

Campers will discover how animals crawl, swim, and fly as they uncover the secrets of how animals move. Campers also will explore many different habitats – from the cold of Antarctica to the environment just outside the Da Vinci Science Center building. A nature camp in which campers will be explorers!

When I Grow Up

Aug. 5-9 and Aug. 12-16

What do you want to be when you grow up?  Our youngest campers will spend the week exploring what it’s like to be a grown-up, learn about different jobs, and build new skills that will help them to understand the endless possibilities available to them in their future.  Everyone will earn Da Vinci dollars when they go to work as a scientist, engineer, chef, doctor, and more each day this week. Use your Da Vinci dollars at the end of the week to buy something cool in the Curiosity Gift Shop!

*This session includes a group visit to Imagi Nation where we will spend the day role-playing different careers inside their miniature city.  Drop-off and pickup on this day will be at Imagi Nation, located at 3313 Hamilton Blvd.

Splish Splash

What better way to beat the end of summer heat than a camp all about water?  Your little learner will perform all sorts of wet hands-on activities this week to help them discover what’s so awesome about this super special substance and why water is so important to all of us.  Each day will be different as we investigate the properties of water, explore how water is used, and experiment with ways water can change.  An extra dry set of clothes is definitely recommended for all campers this week!

Mad Scientist

Young mad scientists in training will explore a different subject in science, technology, engineering, and math every day. We’ll experiment as chemists with reactions and explosions, tinker with electricity and magnetism as electrical engineers, and examine living things as biologists!  We’ll learn how all STEM subjects are related.  Every mad scientist needs to look the part, so we'll be designing our own lab coats and safety glasses!

Grossology

Some of the grossest things in the world are all around us – or even inside us.  Try out the best gassy, gurgley, and downright messy experiments we can come up with.  Based on Sylvia Branzei’s popular children’s book series, this very sticky, super slimy, extra smelly, summer camp is perfect for anyone who wants to learn about gross stuff!

Using Scratch – an icon-based computer language made for kids – we’ll learn the basics of coding and programming as we make our own apps and video games. This session is designed for our newer coders; however, everyone is sure to have a great time developing this 21st century skill together. Educators will challenge each camper based upon her/his ability and provide individualized guidance to help them see how much fun coding is! We’ll spend the week working with various technologies and trying many “unplugged,” hands-on activities to add variety to our days.

Pirate Adventures

Welcome aboard!  This week, it’s a pirate’s life for us.  Campers will follow their captain-counselors on fun-filled, action-packed adventures and develop the skills necessary to lead their own crew one day.  We’ll see who is ready to be a true pirate when we test camper's abilities to perform everyday tasks while wearing an eye patch, a hook hand, and even a peg leg!  As pirates in-training, campers will practice reading and making their own maps to discover hidden treasures.  Finally, every pirate crew needs a ship worthy of sailing the seven seas – will the boat you build for one of your crew members remain afloat or become a sunken ruin?

There are countless ways to get things moving in this summer camp that has been redesigned for 2019.  Campers will experiment with various modes of transportation and push the limits on how far, how fast, or how high they can go!  This open-ended, design-driven camp is perfect for tiny tinkerers and mini makers that love some friendly competition.  For added fun, everyone will get special access to our Be the Astronaut traveling exhibit and take their experiments to the next level in virtual reality.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: become the best super spy in the world!  Unlock your true potential as you practice picking real locks and cracking complex safe codes.  Experiment with the latest high-tech gadgets and modern methods for uncovering the truth as you solve this year’s Super Secret Spy Challenge Course inside the Science Center.  As a world-class super spy, you’ll need to know how to handle yourself in almost any sticky situation; we’ll be providing some indoor sky diving training at iFly in King of Prussia to help you prepare!

Veterinary Apprentice

Get an inside look at what it takes to keep some of your favorite furry, fuzzy, and feathered friends happy and healthy.  We’ll learn about the types of veterinarians and how they care for all kinds of creatures. We’ll have special visitors from The Wildlands Conservancy join us and an actual veterinarian will help us to put our skills to the test!

Discover the science behind the magic from your favorite School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.  Together, we’ll explore subjects like herbology, potions, astronomy, and care of magical creatures. Campers will get a chance to make new friends as they compete for “STEM Points” and work together to complete their N.E.W.T. (Next Extraordinary Wizard-Scientist Test) “exams.” For extra fun, everyone is invited to wear his or her best wizard attire during the week.

Mini-Medical School I

What’s so cool about the human body?  Come find out in summer camp!  Our week-long mini-medical school will help you get a jump start on a future in healthcare and medicine.  We’ll investigate some of the fundamentals of macro- and microbiology; ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases; and learn more about basic anatomy.  Highlights include a fetal pig dissection and a field trip to the St. Luke’s University Health Network Bethlehem campus for a behind-the-scenes look at the healthcare industry. Take Flight: Drones, Planes, and Beyond 

July 22-26 and July 29-Aug. 2

Join us for a series of high altitude adventures this week in our camp all about the fundamentals of flight.  We'll take to the skies using paper airplanes, programmable drones, and virtual reality simulations.  Each day this week, we will experiment with forces, explore unique ways to make things fly, and develop our piloting skills by programming and flying different drones.  Each camper will take home their very own drone at the end of the week!  No summer camp about flying would be complete without a special behind-the-scenes tour of Allentown’s Queen City Airport, where we’ll get to meet some of the professionals who make air travel possible. Engineering with Arduino

Aug. 5-9 and Aug. 12-16
Full Day Session: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Tech-savvy middle schoolers:  this one’s for you.  Assemble electronic components and program your own Arduino micro-controller (AKA mini-computer) to perform all sorts of tasks.  Beginners and experienced programmers are encouraged to join us for this one-of-a-kind, do-it-yourself electronics camp.  We’ll give you all the equipment, tools, and skills necessary to build something truly extraordinary and unique.  At the end of the week, you’ll get to keep everything we worked with – the Arduino, LEDs, LCD screens, and more – to continue building, tinkering, and programming at home!

*Participants who would like to continue their explorations at home are invited, but not required, to bring their own laptop capable of running the Arduino IDE program. Alternatively, campers may connect to the internet and use the online web editor tool to continue working at home.

Camp Details

  • Grade levels represent the grade that students will enter in the coming school year. 
  • Morning sessions are held Monday – Friday from 9 a.m.-noon.
  • Afternoon sessions are held Monday – Friday from 1-4 p.m.
  • Full day sessions are held Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • A one-hour supervised lunch and activity period is provided to campers who participate in either a full-day session or a combined morning and afternoon session.
  • There is no camp July 1-5 due to Independence Day.
  • Morning drop off begins at 8:45 a.m.
  • Morning care activities from 7:30-9 a.m. may be added for an additional charge of $50 per week.
  • Extended care from 4-5:30 p.m. is also provided for an additional charge of $50 per week.
  • Snack options are available for an additional charge of $10 per week.

Camp Reservation and Refund Policies

  • Cancellations made 21 or more days before arrival date: Full refund minus $25 processing fee
  • Cancellations made 8-20 days before arrival date: 50 percent refund
  • Cancellations made 7 days or less before arrival date: 25 percent refund
  • Reservation adjustments: Da Vinci Science Center understands that sometimes it becomes necessary to reschedule a summer camp session after your reservation has been made. The science center will be happy to accommodate a one-time reservation change at no cost if there is availability on the new date. Additional changes to the reservation date will incur a $25 processing fee.
