Jack-O-Lantern Lane

Girl explores the circuit house

Fan-favorite Jack-O-Lantern Lane returns with a new focus on light, optical illusions, and fun sensory challenges. All new exhibit experiences will thrill and engage students in the science of sensory perception and illusion-making. See More

New experiences include:

  • Designing and building electrical circuits that light up paper jack-o-lanterns, then take them home!
  • Creating thaumatrops to experience the basics of animation and motion perception.
  • Exploring color, light, and patterns with transparent colorful pegs on a light wall.
  • Tantalizing optical illusions that amaze and encourage students to understand why images are not always what they appear.

Many Jack-O-Lantern Lane exhibit favorites return this year, including:

  • Creating Colored Shadows to explore the surprising effects of additive color mixing.
  • Experiencing ChromaDepth® 3D Lenses that transform regular two-dimensional color images into a 3D adventure.
  • Artfully designed jack-o-lanterns with science, technology, and cultural themes that illuminate this year’s experience.
